旱金莲喜湿怕涝，喜酸性土，最好用山泥。它的花多而且花期长，所以需要肥料较多，但它是肉质根，怕浓肥、生肥，只能薄肥勤施，在生长期10-15天施一次以磷为主的肥料。
怕严寒酷暑。春秋放在阳光充足处，夏天置于通风良好的半阴处，冬季在5度左右时入室。若温度保持在15度以上能继续开花。
